Description Puglia in southern Italy is a treasure trove of rich tasting reds that “give you a lot of wine for your money” (Decanter) and offer “undreamed-of character and potential” (Hugh Johnson). Our source for this top of the range special is the fabulous Cantine Due Palme cellar, named ‘Winery of the Year’ for three years in succession by the esteemed local wine guide Luca Maroni.
Renowned winemaker Angelo Maci took Primitivo, the region’s star grape, from ancient bush vines up to 80 years old, then added a splash of the equally dark and delicious Negroamaro. The wine was aged in French oak to create a dense, full bodied wine of immense complexity and quality. It’s well suited to meaty pasta dishes or grilled lamb with caponata (aubergine stew).
